The River Shannon is Ireland’s longest river at 386 km or 240 miles long. A a popular name for girls in the 70’s, and for 80 years has been known as Europe’s most westerly airport. Yet few know this ancient trail so deep with tales that secrets emanate from the water within.
The journey begins in Lough Erne in Fermanagh flows south from the Shannon Pot in Cavan and wanders down through the heart of Ireland. Then west to Clare flowing out into the Atlantic at Shannon Estuary. Shannon Navigation began in 1750 and continues to boast busy harbours, peaceful bays, lively villages, and fascinating historical sites.
